[What you will be working on] 

Digital transformation within the public sector is at the heart of what GovTech does. We harness the best info communications technologies to make a difference to the everyday lives of people in Singapore ( about GovTech). As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for technical direction and engineering execution for one (or more) teams. You will drive the design, implementation, and delivery of product capabilities owned by your team, while building a healthy engineering system that ships reliably and improves over time. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Defining your teamʼs engineering vision, strategy, and directions that align with the organisationʼs overall vision
    and goals.
  • Partnering with stakeholders and cross-functional counterparts (e.g., Product, Design, QA, Security) to prioritise
    and manage roadmaps, delivering towards product vision incrementally and efficiently.
  • Creating and maintaining a long-term technical plan and roadmap for the team; updating it regularly to meet future
    product/business needs and infrastructure requirements.
  • Staying close to technical details through architecture reviews, design discussions, and code/review practices,
    bringing sound technical judgment to guide trade-offs.
  • Ensuring the team ships high-quality software predictably and sustainably; improving delivery flow, developer
    experience DevX, and engineering effectiveness.
  • Building reliability and security into the teamʼs approach: observability, incident response, postmortems, and
    preventative improvements.
  • Coaching and developing engineers through 11s, feedback, performance conversations, and career growth
    planning.
  • Establishing practices and tools to encourage a strong engineering culture and maximise engineering
    effectiveness and impact.
  • Helping with recruitment, particularly for more senior hires, and contributing to onboarding


[What we are looking for] 

  • Experience working on reasonably large, high-availability software systems that have operated at scale
  • Strong technical leadership and judgment beyond hands-on implementation: guiding architecture, raising
    engineering standards, and enabling teams to make good decisions.
  • Proven people leadership experience: coaching engineers, giving actionable feedback, and helping individuals
    and teams grow.
  • Strong sense of engineering excellence and craftsmanship; you understand software engineering is a team sport.
  • Experience with modern full-stack web application technologies; experience in modern front-end engineering like
    Next.Js/React.js and Java/TypeScript on the backend is preferred.
  • Ability to guide a team to achieve important goal together, communicate trade-offs clearly, and collaborate well
    across functions.
  • Passion towards working for public good
