[What you will be working on]

Engineering Manager to set technical direction for a focused project scope, defining a clear vision that meets the organisation's quality, security, and compliance standards while establishing DevOps/SRE and secure coding baselines. The role requires a hands-on leader who can drive small-scale design reviews, manage tech debt, and deliver solutions that balance new features with BAU tasks — all while applying SWE Practice standards and surfacing learnings to senior leadership.

Set Technical Direction for a Focused Scope

  • Define a clear technical vision for a limited set of projects that meets the organisation's quality, security, and compliance standards.
  • Establish baseline expectations for DevOps/SRE practices and secure coding standards within your area.

Deliver and Improve with Hands-On Contribution

  • Lead small-scale design reviews and propose minor improvements (e.g., simple refactors, tooling updates) that address tech debt.
  • Deliver solutions that blend new features with BAU tasks (e.g., bug fixes, minor refactoring), maintaining a stable foundation while remaining hands-on.

Apply SWE Practice Standards and Surface Learnings

  • Surface observations and learnings from your work to your senior EM for potential contribution back to the SWE Practice.
  • Apply SWE Practice guidance when establishing DevOps/SRE, quality, and engineering practices in your area - avoid defining norms independently.

Build Awareness of AI-Assisted Development

  • Develop awareness of how AI coding tools are changing the nature of engineering work - from code volume to review quality, design clarity, and architectural soundness.
  • Under senior EM guidance, begin supporting the team in adopting responsible practices for AI tool usage.
