The Workflow Programme focuses on products that support the design, automation, and management of complex approval and decision workflows. The Transactional Services Programme powers high-volume, citizen- and business-facing transactions across government.
Together, these programmes form a core part of the public sector digital ecosystem, enabling agencies to launch, connect, and operate digital services with less reliance on custom development.
As the Design Lead, you will be the most senior designer across both programmes, responsible for driving distinct design visions within each while ensuring coherence and quality within them. You will also define shared design principles, foster collaboration across teams, and strengthen design’s strategic influence alongside product and engineering leadership.
The Design Lead will report to the Programme Director of both programmes.

Define and drive the design vision within each programme, ensuring coherence across products while accounting for their distinct user needs and contexts.

Balance capability growth and usability, guiding how new features and products are introduced without compromising clarity or simplicity.

Shape programme and product roadmaps, partnering with product and engineering leads to embed design principles into strategic decisions.

Mentor and empower designers to raise design standards, improve ways of working and encourage cross-team collaboration.

Seasoned design leader with experience leading the design of multiple complementary products or product suites.

Strategic thinker who can balance near-term delivery priorities with long-term product and experience vision.

Strong collaborator and influencer, adept at demonstrating the value of design to stakeholders through evidence and insight.

Thought leader in design craft and strategy, who can establish and evolve design principles, standards and visions as products mature.
Bonus points
Experience designing low-code or no-code SaaS platform solutions, or multi-product ecosystems that empower users to self-serve through configuration.
