[What you will be working on]
You will be collaborating across the executive teams in DIS (Digital Intelligence Service) and GovTech (ADX) to build a cross functional and capable digital entity across key domains in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
We are looking for an experienced and people-first Deputy Director of Engineering to lead and grow our engineering teams with a strong emphasis on technical mentorship, operational excellence, and consistent software delivery. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives on developing engineers, improving engineering culture, and ensuring that teams consistently deliver high-quality, scalable software.
- As a key member of the technology leadership team, you will oversee all aspects of technology development, from product engineering to related IT infrastructure, operations and architecture, while also mentoring and growing a high-performing technical team. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical acumen, a product-oriented mindset, and proven leadership experience scaling platforms and architecture in high-growth environments.
- You will build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including agency partners across MINDEF/SAF. You will also act as the technology expert/advocate for innovation and technical direction within and outside the organisation.
- This is a unique opportunity to help build and enhance the operational capabilities of the SAF, driving productivity and efficiency through innovative digital solutions, help build a market-leading product and influence strategic decisions at the highest level, working cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, and Operations teams.
- As a key member of the technology leadership team, you will work closely with Product, Design, and other business stakeholders to ensure technical execution is aligned with company goals. You will establish engineering best practices, strengthen technical capabilities, and guide teams through challenges in architecture, delivery, and team dynamics.

[What we are looking for]
- 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience, with 3+ years in engineering leadership roles (e.g., Engineering Manager, Director).
- Proven success in mentoring engineers and managers, and building high-performing, collaborative teams.
- Strong technical background in modern software development, architecture, and delivery practices.
- Deep understanding of agile methodologies, continuous delivery, and scalable systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust and influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience creating and driving engineering excellence programs (quality, reliability, velocity, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
