[About the Role]
The Government Digital Products (GDP) Team aims to spearhead the digital transformation of government. Our team aims to design and develop software applications that help government agencies to better serve the needs of the people of Singapore.
At the Engagement and Case Management Programme, our products are the primary touchpoints through which residents interact with the Singapore Government. We design and develop a suite of software applications including FileSG, Signify, PersonaliseSG, CrowdTask SG, and BookingSG.
As an Engineering Manager / Technical Lead, you will lead a cross-functional agile team to deliver high-quality software while providing strong technical leadership. You will shape the team’s architecture and engineering practices, guide technical decision-making, and foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
You will work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering partners to solve complex problems, deliver high-impact features, and continuously improve how the team builds and operates software
[What you will be working on]
Lead and Grow an Engineering Team
- Lead, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team to deliver reliable, high-quality software.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and support engineers in solving complex problems.
- Help engineers grow through coaching, technical feedback, and strong engineering practices.
Drive Technical Strategy and Architecture
- Define and evolve the technical vision and architecture for the team’s systems.
- Guide design and architecture decisions, balancing speed, scalability, maintainability, and long-term platform goals.
- Partner with other engineering leaders to align on architecture, platform direction, and cross-team technical initiatives.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks while maintaining a healthy balance between feature delivery and technical sustainability.
Deliver High-Impact Software
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to shape solutions and define delivery goals.
- Lead the team in planning and executing engineering work while maintaining strong delivery outcomes.
- Use engineering and operational metrics (e.g., delivery flow, reliability, performance) to continuously improve team effectiveness.
Raise the Engineering Bar
- Champion best practices in system design, code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
- Promote DevOps practices including CI/CD, automation, and strong operational ownership.
- Establish scalable engineering processes such as design reviews, architecture discussions, and effective code reviews
[What we are looking for]
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience building and delivering production web applications.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers within a development team.
- Strong experience designing and building scalable backend systems.
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Experience building modern web applications and APIs.
- Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks such as React or Next.js.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with automated testing and modern development practices.
- Experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker).
- Experience implementing or operating CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to GenAI technologies or AI-powered product capabilities.
Leadership & Mindset
- Strong technical judgment and ability to navigate architectural trade-offs.
- Passion for mentoring engineers and building strong teams.
- Clear communicator who collaborates effectively across engineering, product, and design.
- Curious, proactive, and motivated to continuously learn and improve systems and processes.
