What you will be working on:
Digital transformation within the public sector is at the heart of what GovTech does. We harness the best information and communications technologies to make a difference to the everyday lives of people in Singapore.
GovTech is seeking an experienced software engineer to work on technically challenging problems in a modern, product-focused environment, solving important underserved problems in the public sector. Some of the problems are related to different programmes including healthcare, manpower transformation, trade facilitation, national development, HR and Finance products.
As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that directly impact the lives of Singaporeans. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, reliable systems that serve millions of users across government agencies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing robust, scalable software solutions using modern full-stack web application technologies, with a focus on performance, security, and maintainability.
- Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions that align with architectural standards and best practices.
- Writing clean, well-tested code and conducting thorough code reviews to maintain high engineering standards across the team.
- Contributing to technical decision-making processes, including technology selection, architectural design, and implementation approaches for complex systems.
- Participating in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and system design through deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Mentoring junior engineers and sharing knowledge through documentation, technical discussions, and pair programming sessions.
- Working with various teams to ensure smooth deployment pipelines, monitoring, and incident response procedures.
- Contributing to the MSF Engineering Landscape by implementing Infrastructure-as-Code practices, CI/CD pipelines, and compliance requirements across multiple systems and vendor partnerships.
- Staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices and advocating for their adoption where appropriate to improve engineering effectiveness and system reliability.
- Participating in on-call rotations and incident response to ensure high availability of critical government services.
What we are looking for:
- Extensive experience building and maintaining large-scale, high-availability software systems that serve significant user bases.
- Strong proficiency in modern full-stack web application technologies, particularly Next.js/React.js for frontend development and Java/Python/TypeScript for backend services.
- Deep understanding of software engineering principles including design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and system architecture.
- Experience with cloud platforms, containerisation, and modern deployment practices including CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to engineering excellence with a focus on code quality, testing, documentation, and maintainable software design.
- Passion for public service and interest in using technology to improve government services and citizen experiences.
- Experience working in agile development environments with rapid iteration and continuous delivery practices.
- Familiarity with security best practices and compliance requirements, particularly in government or regulated environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with a track record of delivering impactful solutions.
- Experience with database design and optimisation, API development, and integration with third-party systems.
