Experimental Systems and Technology Lab (ESTL) of GovTech is an engineering team within the Ministry of Education (MOE). We are made up of engineers, user experience designers and education officers. Our team aims to design and develop software applications that help MOE to transform their systems and services through digitalisation and innovation. [What you will be working on]
As a Senior Software Engineer at ESTL, you will architect the digital foundations that enable the Ministry of Education (MOE) to realize its core mission: Moulding the future of our nation.

You’ll also work on innovative authentication solutions, including modern technologies like facial recognition, making access simpler and safer for students, teachers, and staff.

Your responsibilities include:
- Feature Leadership & Delivery: Lead a squad of 2–4 SWEs to design, develop, and maintain IAM/IGA capabilities such as authentication, authorization, identity lifecycle management (joiner–mover–leaver), access provisioning, and certification workflows, ensuring secure and scalable implementations.
- Technical Excellence & Standards: Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, and contribute to improving engineering practices within the team. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers within the team.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with Product Managers and UX Designers to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions with a strong user experience.
- Architecture & System Design: Contribute to architectural decisions and system design discussions, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with long-term platform strategy.
- Code Quality: Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering standards within the team. Promote maintainable design, test coverage, and secure coding practices.
- DevOps, Scalability & Reliability: Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment processes for services owned by the team. Contribute to operational stability through monitoring, incident support, and reliability improvements for assigned services.
- Agile Leadership & Delivery Excellence: Actively participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives. Contribute to predictable delivery of features and continuous improvement of team execution practices.
[What we are looking for]
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3–5 years in technical leadership roles.
- Proven ability to deliver large-scale, high-impact systems or platforms.
- Strong technical foundation with experience in modern architectures (e.g. cloud-native, microservices, CI/CD, DevOps).
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and optimize performance.
- Excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
- A passion for learning new technologies and a commitment to fostering a culture of technical excellence and inclusion.
