[What you will be working on] 

GovTech Consulting embeds expert teams directly with government agencies to modernise services and build lasting in-house capability. We work at the intersection of design, engineering, product, and policy — and AI is changing how all of that fits together.

This role exists because we're at an inflection point. The way design teams work alongside product, engineering, data, and business is shifting fast — and we need someone to lead how we evolve. Not just adopt new tools, but continuously rethink workflows, run structured experiments across projects, carry learnings forward, and build the collaboration models that let every stream work better together.


What you'll do

  • Lead design across a portfolio of agency engagements — owning outcomes, supporting project teams, and driving modernisation across different domains and contexts
  • Shape how the design team's workflows and processes evolve with AI — running experiments across projects, carrying learnings forward, and turning what works into repeatable process
  • Build the collaboration model between design and adjacent streams: product, engineering, data, and business — using AI as a lever to improve how teams work together
  • Identify where new tools need to be built or adopted, from AI-assisted research and synthesis to new ways of prototyping and communicating decisions
  • Hire, mentor, and grow designers — creating the conditions for the team to do their best work across diverse and demanding engagements

  • You're as comfortable in the weeds of a project as you are setting direction across a portfolio

[What we are looking for]

  • 12+ years in design, with meaningful time at senior or lead level running teams and cross-functional programmes
  • A track record of shaping how design teams operate — not just delivering design work, but improving the workflows and processes around it
  • Genuine curiosity about AI and its implications for design workflows — you don't need to have all the answers, but you need to be actively working through the questions
  • Over the last one to two years, you've been actively experimenting: new workflows, new team shapes, new ways of collaborating — not just following the conversation, but running your own tests and forming your own views
  • Strong cross-functional credibility — someone who can work as a peer with product, engineering, and data leads, not just an advocate for design
  • Experience hiring, developing, and retaining designers across different disciplines and levels
