[About Us]
Digital Excellence & Products Division (DXD) is a GovTech team within the Ministry of Education (MOE). DXD sits at the intersection of technology, design, and education. It’s a place where you can solve diverse, complex challenges for the education sector alongside thoughtful, intelligent individuals who lead with curiosity, empathy, and optimism. We develop meaningful products, platforms, and solutions for public good.
The Geospatial Team within DXD is focused on building MOE’s geospatial and spatial modelling capabilities. The team develops the models, tools, and geospatial foundation that help MOE anticipate future demand, optimise school locations, and make evidence-based planning decisions.
[What you will be working on]
As a Software Engineer on the Geospatial Team, you will be responsible for developing the systems and platforms that power MOE's long-term infrastructure and space planning.
Your responsibilities will be to:
- Develop the MOE Spatial Modelling Engine that forecasts future education demand based on housing growth, demographics, migration patterns, land-use plans, and accessibility
- Design and develop internal APIs and standards to ensure consistent and accessible geospatial data layers, such as school locations and travel-time layers
- Embed mapping features and location intelligence into existing MOE tools, such as School Cockpit+, to improve decision-making workflows
- Engage with product managers, planners, and policy officers to translate complex planning needs into technical requirements and robust software solutions
- (For senior hires): Provide technical leadership for the geospatial engineering practice, establish best practices, and mentor junior team members
[What we are looking for]
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of experience in developing and deploying real-world software applications at scale
- Experience with GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS), geospatial APIs, routing engines, or 2D/3D mapping technologies
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and building modern data or software architecture
- Ability to work with complex datasets, including demographic, land-use, and transport data from various government agencies
- A product-focused mindset with a passion for working for the public good and a specific interest in the education domain
