[What you will be working on]
As a Senior Platform Infrastructure Engineer, you will take on a high-impact, technically demanding role at the intersection of engineering excellence and team leadership. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design, delivery, and reliability of large-scale platform infrastructure services — from initial architecture through to post-production monitoring — while also beginning to develop your people management capabilities.
Craft & Execution
- You will design and implement scalable operational workflows and tooling for large-scale infrastructure services, building reusable automation and improving platform reliability. This includes identifying and closing gaps in observability, proactively reducing technical debt, and creating meaningful visualisations and diagnostic tools.
- You will also drive improvements to infrastructure design that enhance performance, availability, resiliency, and security.You will develop and implement standard operating procedures to ensure that platform infrastructure services remain reliable, secure, and maintainable over time.
- You will drive architectural design reviews, guide decisions on platform infrastructure systems, evaluate emerging technologies, and lead proof-of-concepts to validate new approaches.
- You will plan and lead large-scale infrastructure transformation efforts — including migrations from on-premise to cloud environments — ensuring minimal disruption and alignment with business goals.
- You will take responsibility for overseeing the development of solutions from initial conceptualisation and design through to post-production monitoring, ensuring high standards of quality, security, and compliance throughout.
- You will champion proactive risk mitigation, lead troubleshooting of production issues, share lessons learned, and ensure root causes are addressed to prevent repeated firefighting.

- You will take full ownership of broad project scopes, ensuring successful outcomes while taking calculated risks and learning from both successes and failures.
- You will actively mentor and support junior platform infrastructure and infrastructure engineers — sharing knowledge, breaking down problems, and providing constructive feedback — to raise overall team productivity.
Strategic Alignment
- You will translate team goals into actionable plans, breaking down and prioritising tasks while contributing to broader project strategy.
- You will proactively identify opportunities, drive workstreams, and synthesise data into clear recommendations that connect to organisational impact.
- At the project level, you will identify and mitigate risks, anticipating challenges before they materialise.
Culture and Organisational Influence
- You will coordinate cross-functional collaboration, help resolve disagreements constructively, and facilitate alignment among team members and stakeholders.
- You will constructively challenge existing processes, drive continuous improvement, and lead change initiatives at the team or division level. Actively sharing successes, failures, and recommendations will be an important part of how you contribute to team learning and performance.
People Management
- This role marks a transitional stage into people management. With close guidance from your senior engineering manager, you will support team coordination by communicating project goals and priorities clearly, helping team members understand how their work connects to broader objectives.
- You will conduct regular check-ins with one or two direct or indirect reports, focusing on work progress and basic feedback delivery. You will help team members navigate day-to-day blockers, provide technical mentoring, and participate in recruitment activities where applicable.
This role is suited for an experienced engineer who is ready to move beyond individual contribution and take ownership of broad, complex workstreams, mentor others, and shape the technical direction of the team.
[What we are looking for]
Required Skillsets
- Education & Experience: Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in a related field.
- DevOps & Cloud Expertise: Strong understanding of DevOps methodologies, Agile development practices, and cloud technologies (preferably Azure).
- CI/CD Tools: Practical experience with CI/CD tools and pipelines using platforms such as GitLab CI/CD.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in tools like Terraform or Ansible to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for building, managing, and orchestrating containerized applications.
- System Administration: Proficient in administering both Linux and Windows systems, including patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Middleware & Messaging: Experience configuring and managing RabbitMQ or similar messaging systems.
- Cloud & Virtualization: Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and virtualization technologies like VMware.
- Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs, subnets) as they relate to cloud and on-prem environments.
- Programming & Scripting: Exposure to backend technologies such as Java, and scripting skills (e.g. Bash, Python) for automation.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networks, and deployment pipelines.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Architecture & Design: Experience designing infrastructure and automation solutions for complex and scalable applications.
- Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Azure Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator etc).
- Collaboration: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with developers, testers, and operations teams.
- Enterprise Experience: Background working in large software teams or enterprise IT environments.
