GovTech is the lead agency driving Singapore's Smart Nation initiative and public sector digital transformation. We harness the power of technology to make lives better for citizens, businesses, international audiences and the public service sector (about GovTech). Software Engineers at GovTech are key to our success. They work closely with product managers, other software engineers and public sector stakeholders to build robust, scalable
data pipelines that form the backbone of our digital services. They are detail oriented, pragmatic, and impact driven individuals who value trustable data and efficient systems.
Responsibilities:
Through the GreenGov initiative, the government has committed to the public its aim to achieve net-zero emissions by approximately 2045. Furthermore, it has established clear and measurable milestones to facilitate progress across all agencies. Since the year 2021, agencies
have utilised the eGreenGov portal, which is housed within the National Environment Agency’s Waste and Resource Management System (WRMS), to report various environmental data of their respective premises.
The Public Sector Sustainability Office (PSSO) reviews the progress of agencies, provides updates to the Cabinet, and produces the annual GreenGov report championing the GreenGov initiative. They intend to help agencies identify opportunities to improve resource efficiency and climate resilience, and partner with them to streamline the process of implementing these
improvements.
You are expected to:
● Be responsible for high frequency, zero-downtime deployments, incident management,
system health tracking, CI/CD pipelines and continuous improvement.
● Own the engineering quality across the software stack, from design and implementation to testing and monitoring.
● Champion good development practices, accessibility, and sustainable web engineering principles.
● Develop and maintain the reporting platform (e.g., Building Inventory List, Environmental Scorecard) to support sustainability data submissions and validations.
● Implement intuitive dashboards to help agencies visualise progress, identify hotspots,
and benchmark across premises and agencies.
● Ensure secure and role-based access controls (RBAC) are in place for data and system usage.
● Collaborate with data engineers to integrate and work with third parties to integrate data from APIs like DataHive into the user interface.
● You are ultimately responsible for delivering high quality, trusted tools that help drive climate action at scale.
Expectations:
We are looking for an independent person with a mastery of modern full stack development practices.
● 5-8 years of experience in a Full Stack Engineering or related technical role.
● Experience building production-grade web applications with React, TypeScript, Node.js
(or equivalent frameworks).
● Proficiency in implementing secure REST APIs, form-driven UIs, and user dashboards.
● Familiarity with SQL, relational data modeling and integration with external APIs (e.g.
utility data from DataHive).
● Experience implementing role-based access control (RBAC) and user management.
● Comfortable navigating ambiguity and proactively identifying usability and reliability
risks.
● Clear and structured communicator, both in code and prose writing.
● Strong belief and drive for sustainability is a plus!
