What you will be working on

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our team and independently drive data science developments across a range of use cases. At this level, you will be expected to take ownership of projects end-to-end — from scoping and development through to deployment and monitoring — with minimal supervision. You will work closely with stakeholders and peers, contributing not just to technical outcomes but to the broader health and effectiveness of the team.

Craft & Execution

  • You are expected to perform tasks and drive data science developments independently with minimal supervision from the data science manager.
  • You will lead project scoping discussions and translate complex business requirements into technical solutions. This requires communicating technical concepts effectively to stakeholders across different levels of seniority and technical expertise.
  • You will design, implement, and optimise end-to-end ML/AI solutions with improved performance and scalability. You are expected to systematically benchmark and evaluate multiple approaches, applying advanced techniques to solve complex business problems.
  • You will architect scalable solutions using cloud-based services and best practices, and design and implement robust data pipelines and LLM/MLOps workflows that improve efficiency and reduce operational costs. You will deploy models to production environments with comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and maintenance procedures.
  • You will implement and advocate for responsible AI practices across your use cases, proactively identifying and mitigating ethical and governance risks.

Ownership

  • You are expected to own your problem outcomes and help your peers. This means independently owning your assigned tasks and projects, identifying and addressing issues proactively with minimal guidance, and knowing when to engage appropriate help. You will identify opportunities and recommend next steps to improve processes or outcomes in your own work.

Strategic Alignment

  • You are expected to align your own work with team strategy — keeping your tasks connected to team goals and priorities, focusing on work that provides the most expected business value, and adapting to changing priorities independently.

Culture and Organisational Influence

  • You are expected to contribute to team culture by collaborating with peers and stakeholders to ensure tasks are executed effectively, addressing minor conflicts constructively and respectfully, and suggesting improvements that enhance team effectiveness. You will share knowledge, resources, and successes and failures openly to ensure team success.

What we are looking for

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Quantitative Social Science, or related disciplines. We will also factor in relevant certifications (e.g., Coursera).
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, in data science and/or public sector.
  • Capable of translating business use cases into analytical problems and identifying appropriate data sources to tackle these problems.
  • Proficient in writing scripts for data preparation and analysis, using modern analysis tools and programming methodologies.
  • Proficient cleaning, imputing, and correcting anomalies in the collected structured or unstructured data to ensure a high standard of quality in data sets to be used in the analysis work.
  • Proficient in exploring and analysing datasets, applying probability and statistical methodologies and techniques to discover insights from the data.
  • Proficient in building machine learning models to identify, recognise patterns, and make predictions.
  • Proficient in design principles and use of visualisations to best convey the intended information.
  • Capable of developing data visualisation from standalone graphs and charts on to highly customised tools and apps while tightly integrated into the data systems for real time visualisation of information.
  • Capable of translating results from analysis of work into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Capable of communicating results and business impact from analysis work in a coherent data story for stakeholders.
  • Have passion for improving public service and deliver public good using analytics and data.
