What the role is
What you will be working on
The Research Analyst has to process information gathered through a variety of sources (e.g. open source reporting, investigations, etc.), synthesising and crystallising these into timely and useful intelligence. A core part of a Research Analyst’s work is intelligence analysis and sense-making. You will have to make sense and paint a coherent picture of developments, identify information gaps, assess security implications and anticipate developing threats. As an analyst, you will undertake different aspects of research, such as operational research, strategic analysis and policy research. In operational research, you will provide support for investigations to neutralise security threats. You will also be involved in strategic analysis, which entails broader and longer-term monitoring of trends to identify threats and make sound security assessments. In policy research, you will examine policies that have an impact on internal security, to provide an accurate assessment of implications and make recommendations on how best to safeguard Singapore’s security interests. Given the complex and rapidly-evolving security terrain, your work will be fast-paced, challenging and stimulating.
What we are looking for
• Degree in Arts and Social Sciences, or equivalent competencies is preferred
• Strong analytical ability – able to process large volumes of information to surface pertinent security points/trends, develop insights into security threats on the horizon, and distil the implications for Singapore’s internal security
• Meticulous with an eye for detail
• Keen interest in current affairs and security issues
• Strong writing skills – competent in drafting clear and succinct reports
• Able to work independently, as well as in a team
• Useful to have good communication and presentation skills
