What the role is
What you will be working on
You are expected to take on individual cases, or as part of a team to facilitate and manage LMR between unions and companies. Your responsibilities include the following:
• Offer advice and guidance to parties based on knowledge of the employment legislations, industrial norms, tripartite guidelines/advisories, best employment practices and industrial relations norms
• Adopt an outcome-based approach in managing trade disputes, taking into consideration the interests of the parties and the industry practices, and to ensure disputes are dealt with in a holistic manner
• Lead the incident management of high-profile cases across different departments to effectively manage and resolve the case
• Build and deepen trust and relationship with union/PWA leaders and HR practitioners through informal one-on-one engagements or industry events.
• Gather ground sensing on employment and industrial issues for appropriate early intervention and policy formulation
• Be appointed as the Assistant Commissioner for Labour (ACL) who will perform the regulatory function of processing and resolution of a recognition claim, including advisory to unions and companies on their legal rights and obligations relating to the process of recognition
• Any other assigned duties/projects, which may include tripartism or LMR in new unionised sectors, or other projects
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate should have:
• At least 3 years’ working experience in the field of industrial relations, human resources, and/or application of the Employment Act.
• Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of conciliation/arbitration principles and conflict management skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and think on the feet during the dispute resolution process.
• Able to act rationally in stressful and emotional situations and focus on substantive issue to settle disputes
• Good EQ and interpersonal skills
• Strong writing and presentation skills
• Basic knowledge of financial and accounting matters
