Research analysts in MOM’s Economics Department (ED) undertake economic surveillance and forecasting, ex-ante analyses and ex-post evaluations of public policies, as well as economic research to support robust, data-driven and evidence-based policy formulation. Research analysts and economists in ED are organised in two sub-units:
(i) Economic Research Unit (ERU): Supports manpower policies that optimise workforce allocation (to inform local and foreign workforce interventions), develop human capital, and have an impact on industries and businesses.
(ii) Socio-Economic Research Unit (SRU): Supports manpower policies that improve retirement adequacy, uplift the incomes of lower-wage workers and support the employment of vulnerable workforce segments.

What the role is
What you will be working on
As a research analyst in the department, you will shape manpower policies in Singapore through the
application of Economics thinking and the conduct of rigorous economic analyses using a range of empirical methods, including econometrics, data analytics and statistical methodologies.
Through the use of robust data-driven empirical approaches, you will contribute to expanding the base of evidence that supports policymaking.
Your responsibilities include the following areas:
(i) Conducting research and analysis to support a diverse range of manpower policies, including those that optimise workforce allocation (to inform local and foreign workforce interventions), improve the retirement adequacy of Singaporeans, uplift the incomes of lower-wage workers, and enhance the workplace to support the employment of vulnerable workforce segments (e.g., seniors).
(ii) Undertaking efforts to enhance economic surveillance and forecasting of the labour market.
(iii) Developing specialist understanding of the economic theory, literature, data, analytical frameworks and models, as well as quantitative and qualitative research techniques relating to labour economics.
(iv) Collaborating with researchers and policymakers within and outside the Ministry to advance policy thinking and support evidence-based policymaking.
(v) Communicating research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
What we are looking for
• Tertiary qualification in Economics or other related quantitative disciplines, such as Statistics and Data Analytics.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct research and analysis using a range of quantitative and qualitative research techniques.
• Strong quantitative skills (e.g., econometrics, data science) for forecasting, policy modelling and simulations, as well as impact evaluation studies.
• Strong passion for empirical research.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to express complex ideas simply and logically.
• Proficiency with statistical/programming software (e.g., STATA, R, Python).
