What the role is

Reporting to MPA's Hydrographic Division, candidate will be part of our team of maritime professionals whose responsibilities are to ensure safe navigation in Singapore waters by providing hydrographic, cartographic and aids to navigation products and services. The data collected from the hydrographic surveys are used for nautical charting for the safety of navigation in Singapore waters.

Your duties will include:

  • Operate independently to conduct hydrographic surveys in Singapore waters in compliance with IHO S-44 standards.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain state-of-the-art hydrographic equipment
  • Inform navigational safety decisions using hydrographic survey data
  • Process and provide quality assurance for survey data
  • Prepare survey reports
  • Explore, assess and adopt new technologies (e.g. uncrewed platforms, AI and digital automation) to support hydrographic surveys
  • Procurement of hydrographic survey equipment and services.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including management of vendors.
  • Perform administrative roles such as notes taking, as well as the development/revision of SOP and ISO documents.

Candidate should possess relevant certification in disciplines such as Engineering, Surveying, Nautical Studies, Information Technology, Geomatics or Geospatial Information Sciences.

You must be independent, meticulous with an eye for detail and a good team player with good interpersonal and communication skills. You will need to be able to embark and disembark small vessels at jetties using ladders or landing steps without external assistance, and work for extended periods aboard survey vessels.

Candidates with no prior experience are welcomed to apply. Candidates with relevant experience in these areas may be offered positions at a higher level.

In-house training will be provided. Provision of professional accreditation courses would be considered for suitable candidates.
