What the role is
You will work closely with park managers, ecologists, botanists, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate data collection and contribute to the long-term protection of Singapore's botanical heritage.
What you will be working on
Plan and conduct systematic field surveys across Singapore to locate and document rare and endangered native flora species
Develop and implement mapping protocols using GPS technology and GIS software to accurately record species locations and population data
Maintain detailed field records including species identification, population counts, habitat conditions, and photographic documentation
Coordinate with park managers and conservation teams to access survey sites
Analyse field data and prepare comprehensive reports on species distribution, population status, and conservation recommendations
Manage field equipment, survey schedules, and ensure all fieldwork adheres to safety protocols
Collaborate with botanists and taxonomists to verify species identifications, particularly for challenging or cryptic taxa
Contribute to the development of conservation action plans based on survey findings
What we are looking for
Areas of study in botany or horticulture preferred
Relevant experience in botanical fieldwork, ecological surveys, or plant conservation in tropical environments
Knowledge of Singapore's flora and natural heritage and strong plant identification skills, particularly of Singapore's native flora
Proficiency in GPS technology and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data collection and mapping
Excellent physical fitness and ability to work in challenging field conditions including heat, humidity, and difficult terrain
Strong project management skills with ability to plan and execute complex field programmes independently
Meticulous attention to detail in data collection and record-keeping
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and stakeholder engagement
Possesses a valid Class 3 driving license to facilitate field work in remote areas
Self-motivated with ability to work independently in remote locations
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in field situations
Collaborative team player who can work effectively with diverse stakeholders
Commitment to accuracy and scientific rigour
