What the role is

Undertake the function of Statistician / Senior Statistician in the Statistics & Data Systems (SDS) department to (i) support development of the RSU survey roadmap, (ii) conduct surveys of the maritime industry, and (iii) work with business users to design relevant questions that will provide industry insights and aid policymaking.

What you will be working on

  • Design, plan and execute market surveys, including the conceptualisation and testing of survey questionnaires to support users’ requirements.

  • Gather, compile and visualise statistics in one or more specific fields for report generation.

  • Work with business users to develop new indicators to support users’ data requirements.

  • Review survey processes to implement further improvements in survey efficiency.

  • Work with Data Engineers to review and improve survey data collection process and data quality.

  • Work with economists to conduct statistical and econometric analysis that will support decision-making.

  • Employ effective use of appropriate software and techniques to create appropriate survey samples that effectively balance between respondent burden and support for detailed analyses.

  • Manage the survey operations including respondent management, data verification, cleaning and compilation to ensure a high standard of quality in data sets to be used in the analysis work.

  • Develop logically structured presentations including narratives of research and/or analytics findings to secure stakeholder commitment. This can include sophisticated visualizations and dashboards to explain these results.

What we are looking for

  • Background in Economics, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, or other related disciplines with substantial quantitative content.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to learn and apply relevant statistical and analytical tools and techniques for data compilation and analysis.

  • Experience in sampling methodology or surveys of business firms is a plus.

  • Able to code using Python/R to perform data analysis and operationalize data analytics workflow and processes.

  • Experience in data visualisation tools and libraries such as Tableau, Qlik, ggplot2.

  • Strong communication skills with ability to articulate and present complex data insights and information for broad range of audience in a concise and actionable manner.

  • Understand business processes well.

  • Creative and innovative in solving problems.

  • Achievement driven and delivery focused while maintaining required quality.

  • Team player with strong organisational and people management skills.

  • Experience in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams that combine technical, business and data science competencies.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to pitch ideas and influence stakeholders.

  • Past working experience in the maritime sector will be a plus.
