The MTI Academy complements MTI policy Divisions’ work in expanding Singapore’s economic space. MTI Academy officers will develop deep understanding of MTI domain areas, namely, Trade, International Economic Relations, Industry, Energy and Carbon (TIER, I, E, C) and support organisational efforts to enhance the competency of officers so that they can be effective in advancing Singapore’s economic interests.

(v) You believe in the importance of working with local and foreign stakeholders in the government, international organisations, think-tanks and the private sector.
(vi) You share the view that resilience, and adaptability are skills that you and all officers in MTI need as you develop in MTI.
(vii) You do not settle for the status quo. You seek to innovate and push boundaries.
(viii) As expected of an Academy officer, you will research on MTI domain areas and interests, and proactively share knowledge products (journals, articles, commentaries) relating to MTI domain areas with MTI officers to support their learning and development.
What you will be working on
You will work with the MTI Divisions and Firefly agencies to:
(i) Equip MTI officers with the capabilities and competencies– knowledge, expertise, soft skills – to support MTI in achieving our Trade, Industry, Energy and Carbon interests.
(ii) Raise Firefly/WOG officers’ understanding of MTI’s economic priorities, so that they can also be advocates of MTI’s positions domestically and internationally.
(iii) Collaborate with knowledge centres and experts to exchange ideas and explore good practices and norms to promote regional and international cooperation and foster a rules-based economic system.
(iv) Grow a circle of interlocutors– local and foreign– and socialise and gain mindshare for Singapore’s approach and interests. This includes the engagement of public and private stakeholders for the purpose of raising awareness of Singapore’s various economic agreements such as Free Trade Agreements, Digital Economy Agreements, Green Economy Agreements, Carbon-credit Agreements, Industry, Energy and Carbon interests (eg, mitigation options and low emission strategies such as Solar, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage, Regional Grids, and Nuclear Energy).
(v) Proactively identify, network and tap on partners –local and foreign– with deep expertise on MTI domain areas, recognising that they can contribute to our programmes to enhance the competencies of MTI officers.
(vi) Further to developing and implementing training interventions on MTI domain areas, research on MTI domain areas and interests, and proactively share knowledge products (journals, articles, commentaries) relating to these areas with MTI officers to support their learning and development.
(vii) Collaborate with MTI Divisions in relation to the governance of think-tanks funded by MTI and ensure that their work supports Singapore’s economic interests.
What we are looking for
Requirements:
(i) Keen interest in MTI domain areas and priorities, and domestic and international economic developments, geo-politics and geo-economics.
(ii) Strong analytical and conceptual abilities, with an eye for detail, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
(iii) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
(iv) Self-starter, versatile and adaptable to different environments. Committed to continuous learning on MTI domain areas and priorities.
(v) Ability to work well in teams and engage people.
