What the role is
What you will be working on
To develop and strengthen plans and policy for the Urban Solutions & Sustainability (USS) domain. The role of USS is to develop and strengthen Singapore’s RD&D capabilities in the energy, water, environment and urban solution sectors to support the growth and development of industries, and to leverage these capabilities to foster innovation for meeting National Challenges.
As Head/ Deputy Head/ Assistant Head, USS, you will:
• Develop RIE strategies to build a resilient, sustainable, vibrant and liveable “City of Tomorrow”;
• Develop RIE initiatives in USS areas of interest including climate science, climate mitigation and adaptation, low carbon technologies, circular economy, food and water resilience, and built environment solutions such as advanced construction and city in nature;
• Partner and coordinate between government agencies, Institutes of Higher Learning, Research Institutes, companies and other relevant stakeholders to identify complex systems-level challenges and opportunities that can be addressed through RIE, and to co-develop and implement corresponding solutions;
• Collect and analyse data from international and local USS RIE ecosystem to make recommendations on new RIE plans and policies;
• Manage strategically important RIE-funded programmes and ensure programmes achieve their intended outcomes. This includes direct management and being responsible for day-to-day implementation, operations and deliverables of NRF-funded programme under the USS domain); and
• Perform any functional work necessary for the effective running of USS and NRF (e.g. secretariat and accompanying officer duties and participate in workgroups and committees).

About National Research Foundation
The National Research Foundation (NRF) was set up on 1 January 2006 as a department under the Prime Minister's Office. It was set up to perform the following:
a) To provide secretariat support to the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC), chaired by the Prime Minister;
b) To coordinate the research of different agencies within the larger national framework in order to provide a coherent strategic overview and direction;
c) To develop policies and plans to implement the five strategic thrusts for the national R&D agenda; and
d) To implement national research, innovation and enterprise strategies approved by the RIEC, and to allocate funding to programmes that meet NRF's strategic objectives.
