What the role is
What you will be working on
You will be required to carry out research on fluid geopolitical developments, worldwide trends to key threats to Singapore. You will have to provide strategic threat assessments, insights and critical inputs on issues impacting Singapore. You will also have to prepare intelligence briefs to stakeholders, so as to provide early warnings and enhance situational awareness. You will need to support investigations to defend against threats.
Additionally, you will gain the knowledge of foreign languages and have opportunities to sharpen your data analytical skills as you make sense of data from various sources. You will also gain experience in working with multiple stakeholders across the defence ecosystem and the wider Singapore government.
What we are looking for
You should have a degree, preferably in Arts and Social Sciences, Communications and New Media, Data Science. You should have an interest or experience in manipulating and analyzing large quantities of data to gain insights. You should also have an interest or experience in analyzing geopolitical, economic and defence-related developments. You need to have a strong command of spoken and written English. It would also be advantageous to be proficient in a second language (E.g. Mandarin/ Bahasa Melayu/ Bahasa Indonesia).
You need to have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a knack for problem-solving, as well as the ability to think strategically and have a keen eye for detail. You should have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team. You should have good time management skills, to manage tight deadlines and operate under time pressure.
About Military Security Department
The Military Security Department (MSD)’s core business is in Counter Intelligence and internal security for MINDEF/SAF. MSD was formed in 1975 to counter the threats of espionage, subversion and sabotage against MINDEF/SAF. It began with two main entities, namely the Counter Intelligence Branch (CIB) and Field Security Branch (FSB). Over the years, the department has continued to evolve and our roles expanded in tandem with the changing security environment. Today, our roles also include Counter Terrorism and Cyber Security.
