The Rehabilitation and Protection Group (RPG) provides services for the rehabilitation of adult and youth offenders and the protection of children and families. What the role is
What you will be working on
As a Youth Guidance Officer, you will take at-risk youths from challenging backgrounds through structured daily routines, coach and develop them to acquire personal mastery in the areas of positive values, attitude and habit formation.
You will need to plan, implement and review structures, routines and programmes in youth guidance. You will ensure the holistic well-being of male youths, and establish and maintain security and safety for the youths. You will manage youth discipline through a balanced, robust and caring approach. Being part of the ministry, you will collaborate with other professionals to achieve the rehabilitative outcomes for youths. You will also contribute to the professional growth and development of the Homes, Division and Ministry. You will serve as a positive role-model in speech, attitude and behaviour. You will work in a fast-paced and highly volatile environment that would require the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders at the same time.
• You must be willing to work in shifts.
• As this role requires close supervision and to provide care of male at-risk youths, we are only able to accept male candidates.

Functional/Technical Competencies
• Tertiary qualification
• Experience working in an institution, or with groups of at-risk youths and/ or challenging youths
• Youth-savvy, with strong interest and commitment in working and caring for challenging youths
• Efficient with organisational skills and able to leverage on technology
• Able to conduct risk assessment and maintain situational awareness when on duty, and respond appropriately and promptly in challenging situations.
Generic Competencies
• Able to command presence and respect
• Able to maintain consistent stand and respond to residents firmly and calmly and is not easily intimidated,
• Good physical stamina: Able to run distances to reach scenes of emergencies and climb multiple stairs daily when performing duties
• Analytical mindset with problem solving and decision-making skills
• Resilient and able to handle stress with high emotional stability
• Able to communicates effectively with good listening skills
• Adaptable and alert, and understands when to escalate complex issues
