The Language Division within the National Heritage Board (NHB) provides secretariat support for four language councils and/or language campaigns, namely the Speak Good English Movement, the Promote Mandarin Council for the Speak Mandarin Campaign, the Malay Language Council, Singapore (MLCS) and the Tamil Language Council.
The Malay Language Council, Singapore (MLCS) was established in 1992. Its objective is to inculcate a community of Singaporean Malays with an awareness and appreciation of Malay culture and heritage through the promotion of Malay language and literature. The MLCS’ key initiatives and focus areas include Bulan Bahasa, Anugerah Persuratan and, Anugurah Guru Arif Budiman, Mastera, MABBIM and more.
