What the role is

You will be part of the International Division that is responsible for representing and advocating Singapore’s position to advance and/or safeguard our national interests. The Division manages MPA’s engagement with foreign governments as well as international and regional bodies, such as the International Maritime Organization, the European Union, and the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Responsibilities of the Division also include building and strengthening of strategic partnerships in emerging areas such as sustainable development, maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation, and working with other government agencies on sovereignty and security-related issues. MPA’s overseas offices also form part of the Division, leading in-country engagements with key stakeholders.

What you will be working on

The key responsibilities for the role will include (but are not limited to):

  • Represent and advocate Singapore’s position at key global and regional platforms.

  • Forge and deepen partnerships with key partners to safeguard or advance Singapore’s interest, including in emerging areas such as green and digital shipping.

  • Assess geopolitical and maritime related developments in the countries that the role is responsible for. 

  • Formulate strategies to engage countries and international organisations, including preparation of information papers.

  • Review MPA’s policies and strategies including recommending response to international developments that may impact Singapore’s strategic and commercial maritime interests.

  • Organise and participate in international events, visits and overseas trips to engage relevant stakeholders.

What we are looking for

  • Keen interest in international affairs and/or maritime industry.  

  • Prior experience in Economics, Global Studies, International Relations, International Security, Law, Maritime Studies, Political Science, Public Policy and Administration or related disciplines would be advantageous. 

  • As the role involves the preservation of Singapore’s strategic maritime interests as a representative of the MPA, the job will favour candidates with strong analytical, writing and communications skills with a good command of English.   Proficiency in other languages will also be useful.

  • Team player who values teamwork and works well with multiple stakeholders.

  • Candidates with no prior experience may also apply. Those with relevant working experience may be considered for more senior positions.  

You may be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
