What the role is

The Centre of Science for Urban Nature (CSUN), a division of the National Parks Board (NParks), carries out application-focussed research in various aspects of urban greenery and ecology, including arboriculture, urban ecosystems, sustainable landscaping and human-nature relationships. Our goal is to advance and apply knowledge in urban ecology and social ecology to enhance our tropical urban living environment. Under CSUN, a geospatial team will be established to support decision making in NParks policy and operational work through advanced geospatial modelling.

What you will be working on

As part of the geospatial modelling research team at CSUN, you will focus on scoping, conducting, and managing research projects pertaining, but not limited to, spatial ecology, ecosystem services assessment, and geospatial analytics applications for urban ecology and ecosystems. Specifically, your duties include: 

•    Scoping and managing research projects (with external collaborators or in-house projects) to advance geospatial modelling capabilities in the focus areas mentioned above, as assigned.

•    Working closely with multiple stakeholders and in cross-functional teams to ensure that research findings can translate to support policy formulation and guide planning, design, development, and management of Singapore’s natural capital.

•    Conducting in-house geospatial analytics and modelling projects.

What we are looking for

•    Masters or PhD in a field related to geography, landscape, urban greenery, forest ecology, and freshwater ecology.
•    Demonstrated track record in quantifying ecosystem services and/ or urban ecological processes.
•    Demonstrated track record in using Geographic Information Systems/ Remote Sensing as a research tool.
•    Demonstrated track record in working with multiple stakeholders (e.g. government agencies, vendors, academia etc.).
•    Conversant with one or more coding languages (e.g. R, python).

Preferably, candidates should possess
•    Research experience on ecological connectivity modelling, ecosystem services of blue-green infrastructure and/or multi-criteria decision-making
•    Research grant and/or project management experience.
