
Senior/Forensic Scientist, Forensic Chemistry & Physics Lab (Microtraces)

What the role is
What you will be working on
- Provide quality and efficient forensic science services for casework in the area of microtraces (eg. paint, glass, fibres, etc).
- Conduct forensic examination of exhibits, including operation of instruments used in analysis, submitted to the laboratory by law enforcement agencies.
- Prepare forensic reports and provide expert testimony in court for the administration of justice.
- Assist in/Lead research projects to develop and advance the laboratory's methodology, technology and quality assurance.
- Attend crime scenes.
What we are looking for
Job Requirements
- Background in Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a relevant field.
- Comfortable with performing examinations under light microscopes.
- Understanding of underlying theories and principles of common analytical instruments such as FT-IR spectrometer, Raman spectrometer and Scanning Electron Microscope. Prior hands-on experience in operation of these instruments would be advantageous.
- Highly motivated with a strong desire to serve the administration of justice.
- Good critical-thinking and analytical thinking skills, with attention to details.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Good oral presentation skills, with the ability to convey scientific concepts and findings to non-technical audiences.
- Able to work both independently and also to collaborate with others.
