What the role is

Climate change is a global existential threat, and Singapore is doing its part to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions for a more sustainable future. The power sector contributes about 40% of Singapore's greenhouse gas emissions. We need to significantly reduce the power sector's emissions, while ensuring that the power system remains secure, reliable, and sustainable. The role will involve driving EMA's efforts on electricity imports and regional power grids, to allow Singapore to access cleaner energy resources outside our borders.

You will join a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team tasked to facilitate electricity imports into Singapore and regional grid interconnections. This includes: (i) evaluating proposals for electricity imports and regional grid interconnections to meet our requirements for security, competitiveness and sustainability, and (ii) ensuring that electricity imports projects are implemented on time, through policy and regulatory levers.  Specifically, you will join the Re-Imagining Future Power (RFP) branch in the Energy Connections Office, where your key responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating with interested companies on their proposals

  • Engaging overseas government bodies to facilitate electricity imports

  • Reviewing and developing policies and regulatory frameworks to enable electricity imports

Requirements

We are looking for people with a keen interest in energy issues and passion for the public service.  You must be excited about learning new things, comfortable with navigating ambiguity, challenging the status quo, and willing to speak up and put forward new solutions. Key skillsets that we are looking out for include:

  • Strong understanding of technology concepts and trends, with the ability to assess economic implications.

  • Proficient in financial modelling, cost analysis, and business case development.

  • Familiarity with relevant tools and methodologies for techno-economic analysis.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage and collaborate with stakeholders.

You should also be a team player and be prepared to travel overseas for work. Those with prior experience in electricity trading, industry engagement and project management will have an advantage.
