What the role is

The ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic development.

Applications are invited for a Librarian/Snr Librarian for Content Management and Discovery.

What you will be working on

You will be responsible to manage the ISEAS Library's collection management and metadata management efforts to support the information needs and research of the Institute.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Cataloguing, classification and archiving of library materials in all formats including monographs, serials, audio-visual and electronic resources
  • Manage the discovery of the library content through the provision of quality records/meta data via review, rectification and maintenance processes/standards and exploration/implementation of initiatives to improve efficiencies/increase reach and discovery;
  • Collection organisation and management of the library’s various collections including physical processing, inventory management etc
  • Compilation and production of the Library's newsletters, information alerts and content creation e.g blog posts to create awareness and usage
  • Administrative responsibilities include e.g establishing/reviewing process/policy documentation, management progress, budgeting and supervisory duties
  • Shared duties in include collection development and management, front-line customer and reference services, user education and promotional activities; lead and/or participate in projects
  • Other responsibilities as required

What we are looking for

  • Knowledge of and experience with relevant standards and schemas including MARC standards, RDA, LCSH and LCC, and with library and cataloguing systems such as SirsiDynix Symphony and OCLC Connexion
  • Experience in serials cataloguing, electronic resources management, archiving, digital asset management systems and discovery tools/services
  • Familiarity with collection organisation, management and discovery; able to lead and supervise team
  • IT-savvy with strong proficiency in MS Office suite of software, particularly Excel; experience with metadata management tools and software would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of and ability to read mainland Southeast Asian languages (Thai, Burmese, etc.) is an advantage  
  • Organised and meticulous with attention to detail; independent self-starter who is able to multi-task, plan and complete duties with tight deadlines; good communicator and team player essential
  • A degree in library science or similar experience is an advantage
  • Minimum five-six years in a cataloguing/content organization & discovery role

Remuneration and benefits will depend on the candidate’s qualification and experience.
