The Syariah Court (SYC) is the primary institution for settling disputes between divorcing and divorced Muslim couples. We also issue inheritance certificates to beneficiaries of deceased persons. The Syariah Court aspires to be a reliable, dynamic and just court which inspires confidence.
To support the work of the Court Counsellors in identifying trends, measure effectiveness and provide insights to enhance child-centric practices in the Syariah Court divorce process through i) gathering and analysing data and ii) resource development.
The intern will gain firsthand experience to the impact of divorce on families and children, will learn about the complexities of family relationships in contested divorce, work alongside professionals from different disciplines (legal, judicial, religious) to support clients effectively.

What the role is
What you will be working on
1. Data Collection:
- Gather data from multiple sources: quantitative and qualitative (include observations of services, surveys with SYC clients)
- Ensure data accuracy, confidentiality and completeness.
- Document sources and maintain organised records.
2. Data Analysis:
- Clean and preprocess data for analysis.
- Conduct basic statistical analysis.
- Identify patterns, trends, and correlations.
3. Reporting and Presentation:
- Prepare visual representations (charts, graphs).
- Summarize findings in written reports.
- Prepare presentations for leadership on evaluation findings and suggestions.
4. Resource Development:
Create resource guides for clients to navigate the Court process and to assist them to find additional support and services.
What we are looking for
• Research skills: Conducting literature reviews, designing surveys and conducting statistical analysis.
• Attention to detail when collecting, organising and analysing data
• Good communication skills to interact with vulnerable clients, collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders and convey findings to management
• Resourceful and proactive in seeking out information and exploring different approaches.
• Efficiently managing time to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.
• Previous internship in a related setting like a social service agency or ministry working with vulnerable families would be advantageous.
