What you will be working on
This job might be for you if you possess the following qualities:
- Lead strategic planning and coordination for establishing and maintaining specialised laboratories, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and timelines.
- Develop and manage comprehensive project budgets, oversee financial planning, cost control, and resource allocation for laboratory establishment and maintenance projects.
- Create detailed project plans for laboratory establishment and maintenance, including scope definition, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for proposed projects and initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with budgetary constraints.
- Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of critical infrastructure systems, with a focus on Air Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV), and specialised laboratory equipment.
- Manage building automation systems to enhance facility performance and user comfort.
- Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to ensure specialised laboratories meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify potential risks associated with laboratory operations and develop robust mitigation strategies for safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Develop and implement sustainability initiatives across facilities, integrating innovative engineering solutions to optimise building performance and energy efficiency.
- Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics, including energy consumption and waste generation.
- Facilitate effective communication with stakeholders, including researchers, consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
- Participate in corporate projects and perform administrative tasks as assigned.
What we are looking for
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates with degrees in other engineering disciplines (e.g., Electrical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering) with relevant experience will also be considered.
- Experience in facility infrastructure management, particularly in specialised laboratory or research environments.
- Expertise in designing and managing ACMV systems, and other critical building systems.
- Strong background in project management, particularly in complex built environments.
- Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements for specialised laboratories, including safety protocols for handling hazardous biological and chemical materials.
- Experience with Government Procurement practices, including green procurement initiatives.
- Proficiency in building management systems and CAD software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex infrastructure challenges.
- Passion for driving sustainability in scientific research environments.
- Knowledge of green building standards (e.g., Green Mark) and experience implementing energy-efficient solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
