Energy security is an existential issue for Singapore.
With the growing climate imperative, a global energy transition shifting to low-carbon fuels is underway. At the same time, geopolitical pressures are causing significant stresses in energy markets, leading to risks of supply disruptions and significant price volatility.
The energy transition will be especially challenging for Singapore, given our scarce natural resources and limited renewable energy options. One of Singapore’s biggest challenges over the next few decades is to secure a low-carbon energy supply that is reliable and cost-competitive. The future of Singapore’s energy landscape depends on our ability to harness four switches – natural gas, solar, electricity imports, and low-carbon solutions such as hydrogen, ammonia, and carbon capture and storage.
