The Data Engineering (DE) Team in the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is responsible for applying advanced methods in data engineering to enhance various aspects of urban planning and development. The team comprises data engineers, analysts, cloud engineer, and planners who work together to provide innovative solutions to complex urban challenges. Your contributions will play a vital role in advancing the security and robustness of PSDH, helping to ensure data integrity and secure access across planning sectors

Internship Job Scope: 1. Develop Automated Monitoring and Alerting System: Design and implement a framework to automatically monitor the PSDH data platform for suspicious activities and potential security breaches. 2. Anomaly Detection: Build detection mechanisms based on thresholds and usage patterns, such as unusual login times, excessive login attempts, high-volume data access, unauthorised access to datasets. 3. Alert Notifications: Configure automated alert notifications through email or other communication channels to notify relevant teams when anomalies are detected. 4. Collaboration: Work closely with the security team, data engineers, cloud engineers and stakeholders to ensure alignment with PSDH security requirements and standards. 5. Alert Threshold Configuration: Assist in configuring and fine-tuning alert thresholds for various events and activities across the PSDH platform to optimize detection accuracy and reduce false positives. 6. Testing and validation: Perform testing and validation of the implemented alerts to ensure they are functional and effective. 7. Documentation: Maintain the documentation of the alert configuration processes, strategies, monitoring guidelines, and any changes made to the system for future reference and compliance. 8. Additional enhancements: Collaborate with the team to identify and implement other enhancements that improve the overall performance, functionality, and security of the PSDH platform. Learning Outcomes: • Hands-On Experience in Security Monitoring: Gain experience in building and managing automated alert systems for security purposes. • Anomaly Detection in Data Platform: Develop skills in anomaly detection, understanding and implementing thresholds, and analyzing usage patterns for security. • Exposure to Cloud and Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with Azure monitoring tools (e.g., Log Analytics) and other alerting solutions. • Collaboration with Teams: Gain insight into security practices and cross-team collaboration to enhance a system’s security posture. • Build knowledge of data security practices and monitoring tools within a cloud-based data environment.
