Be part of URA’s DPLab, which spearheads URBEX efforts in the experimentation and development of smart planning technologies through Policy-Ops-Tech collaborations. Our teams leverage on their capabilities in data policy, governance, strategy, and engineering, product strategy, business analysis, software engineering, cloud engineering, urban design technologies, data science, AI/ML, and modelling and simulation to collaborate with planners, architects, and policymakers to create insights and digital solutions for Singapore’s urban planning challenges.
Software Engineer Intern (3D Urban Model)
Urban Redevelopment Authority
Internship
Closing on 31 Jan 2025
What the role is
What you will be working on
DPLab is assembling accurate 3D urban models to enable digital urban planning and design, including modelling & simulation (M&S), indoor analytics, and digitalised land inventory tracking. This entails exploring applications of a 3D unitised model in planning, as well as designing processes and systems to automate and sustainably create 3D urban model data. As an intern, you will be tasked to:
• Assist in service journey mapping to understand the capabilities of unitised 3D urban models and how planners and partner agencies can benefit from them.
• Develop and design front-end UX UI for the models to meet user groups' needs, including wireframing on Figma, and software development on DPLab's systems.
• Explore scripts and tools to automate conversion of approved plans including Building Information Models (BIM) and IFC-SG to extract relevant datasets to support 3D urban model needs, including using software such as ArcPy, FME and ArcGIS Pro.
Learning Outcomes
• Opportunity to practise software engineering capabilities with front-end development work.
• Gain knowledge on latest BIM technological trends in Singapore's built environment with hands-on experience of latest tools, including data transformation tools such as FME. • Obtain knowledge on latest build environment regulations, including the development of Corenet X in streamlining agencies application processes for buildings.
• Gain an understanding of the possibilities of GeoBIM, an integration of BIM technologies with Geographical Information Systems.
• Practise service design journey skills with real use cases, which is essential in designing and building meaningful products for users.
What we are looking for
• Undergraduates pursuing Computer Science, Geography (with GIS specialisation), Urban Planning, Architecture, or any urban planning related fields.
• Familiarity with Singapore's built environment including BIM and CAD drawing standards.
• Familiarity with Geographical Information System (GIS) softwares such as ArcGIS Pro.
• Experience with coding and scripting languages including SQL, ArcPy, and R.
• Experience with GIS and BIM data conversion tools including FME (FME Basic, FME Flow) and Rhino.
• Experience with front end software engineering and development, including UX UI design.
• Skilled in service journey mapping and design thinking.
• Note that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
