LAB is planning to develop legal technology products, in particular AI digital tools, in order to transform its business and work processes. This is to enable it to fulfil its mission of helping the less privileged get access to justice in a more effective and efficient manner. Your role will be to champion and develop such AI digital tools in LAB, working with both internal and external stakeholders, using both your legal knowledge, as well as IT skills.

What the role is
What you will be working on
Your responsibilities would include:
a) Implementing and optimising new AI digital tools for activities such as legal advice, legal research, knowledge management, and drafting of court and other documents.
b) Enhancing LAB’s efficiency and effectiveness by engaging in environmental scanning to i) obtain and champion new AI legal technology related ideas and ii) contribute to LAB’s existing legal technology products’ design and effectiveness.
c) Training LAB staff in the use of any new AI digital tools and initiatives developed.
d) Leveraging on your legal expertise to update and refresh the LAB’s existing legal technology products (i.e. legal information chatbot, form-filling assistant, and matrimonial assets division calculator).
e) Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Ministry of Law departments, government ministries, universities, vendors, non-governmental organisations, etc) to achieve a) to d) above.
What we are looking for
Key Competencies
[Legal Expertise] Make use of legal knowledge and training in order to develop and train AI digital tools.
[Contracting & Outsourced Management] Manage contracts and outsource vendors for the development and operation of AI digital tools.
[Project Management] Plan and manage the AI digital tool projects, their desired outcomes, and ensure alignment of projects to the business objectives within agreed parameters of cost, schedule and scope covering development, implementation and/or maintenance. Ensure the appropriate project development methodology is selected based on the needs of each project.
[Agile Methodologies, Tools & Delivery] Make use of Agile methodologies and tools to support iterative and incremental development of AI digital tools.
[Business Analysis] In the context of AI digital tools (a) Elicit, scope, develop and manage business requirements through rigorous and appropriate methods of information gathering and collaboration with stakeholders; (b) Analyse problems and recommend / define solutions and programmes in order to address needs and enable effective delivery; (c) Develop business case and articulate potential impact and value of solution in collaboration with stakeholder(s).
Personal Traits / Work Experience
To be successful in this role, you must have/be:
A university degree in law from:
(i) NUS, SMU, SUSS; or
(ii) a "scheduled university" in England, Australia, New Zealand or the USA.
Experience in private practice, particularly in the field of litigation, would be an advantage.
Strong interest, training and experience in roles or projects involving AI, Computer Science, Infocomm Technology, or related subject areas.
A highly motivated individual with a strong interest in legal technology and its applications.
Ability to work well independently, but also in a team environment.
Strong technical writing skills (e.g. doing tender specifications, instruction manuals).
Good communication skills, in particular the ability to communicate complex technological concepts to various stakeholders, and encourage adoption of new technologies.
Strong analytical, conceptualisation and problem-solving skills.
Candidates would be at an advantage if they have:
Proficiency in web development or programming languages/
A certification in IT Project Management or Business Analysis.
Appointment will be commensurate with your experience. Successful candidates will be appointed on a 1-year contract in the first instance.
