The Head of AI Engineering is a technical manager responsible for overseeing the development of AI technologies to meet business needs. While this is a technical role, it also involves managing a team of AI Engineers and Computer Scientists. Therefore, the individual must possess strong technical expertise and have significant experience in AI engineering. In addition, the role requires setting the development direction for AI technologies in alignment with the strategic goals established by the Deputy Director (Engineering) and the Director of the COE. The individual must also consider the business implications of AI solutions, lead discussions with external partners (both commercial and non-commercial), and effectively communicate the value of various AI techniques in simple terms to non-technical stakeholders.

Oversee the design, development, and deployment of software stack and AI models for S&S COE Define, implement and continuously improve AI and Software engineering processes within the team to ensure reliability, and maintainability of released AI models Collaborate with stakeholders, such as the engagement managers, product managers and end-users to define and implement AI services that meet their business needs Identify and resolve technical issues and strive to keep the team’s technical debt as low as possible Manage the AI Engineering team’s resources and work performance and to match individual aspiration with stakeholders’ requirements Stay up to date with the latest Software and AI technologies, trends and best practices Foster a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement in the AI Engineering team

Tertiary education of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field At least 10 years of relevant professional work experience in software and system engineering with 3-years of hands-on experience in AI model development with Python using frameworks such as OpenCV, Tensorflow or Torch At least three (3) years of years of experience in designing, developing, deploying, and monitoring machine learning and Deep Learning solutions using Docker, Kubernetes or Kubeflow At least 3-year’s experience of working in Cloud environment (AWS or Azure) Experience with Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) environment will be strongly preferred Good experience in Bash and PowerShell Scripting on Linux Operating system A proven track record of people management and being able to develop individuals’ careers and motivation to achieve team’s outcomes Having domain knowledge in Homeland Security sector will be an added bonus *** All new hires are appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance.
