What the role is

You will be part of a team of marine professionals whose duties may include conducting inspections on ships to verify conformance with international and national regulations, investigating marine incidents, conducting training on maritime safety and pollution prevention, monitoring developments in international conventions of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and updating the national shipping regulations.

What you will be working on

Other duties may include overseeing navigational safety and security in port, regulating marine traffic, enforcing port regulations, coordinating search and rescue operations, auditing port security measures and implementing maritime security measures.

What we are looking for

You should possess a Certificate of Competency (Deck) Class 1 or COC 1 (Motorship) and working experience onboard ocean-going vessels either in the deck or engine department for at least 3 years.  Candidates with working experience as Master/Chief Engineer on ocean-going vessels as well as piloting experience will have an added advantage.

For candidates who do not possess the COC1 qualification, knowledge in engineering fields (i.e. Naval Architecture or Marine/Electrical/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering) and having work experiences in related functions for at least 3 years will be essential for the role.
