Collection condition surveys are semi-quantitative, systematic data gathering approach that gives a general overview of the condition of collections. In NAS, a number of collections have been identified as key collections. The intern will work on a key collection with the conservators, generating data for preventive conservation and collection management planning.This seeks to proactively arrest issues with our collections before they escalate into bigger problems.

What you will be working on

  • Access and gather data for a collection survey on a key NAS collection to identify its overall condition and propose follow-up actions that are required. Additionally to effectively process, organise and present data gathered to collection owners so they can plan for conservation or other remedial actions for the collection. 
  • Assist in the examination, documentation, analysis and conservation treatment of a map from NAS collection. This would supplement their understanding about material and condition needed for the collection survey.
  • Assist in day-to-day operations in the lab

What we are looking for

  • Background in History or Arts related discipline preferred
  • Manual dexterity
  • Detail-oriented 
  • Knowledge in basic excel and powerpoint
  • Knowledge in basic organic chemistry
