What the role is

Technoeconomic viability and deployment readiness of low/zero-carbon energy pathways for Singapore, New Energies Division The New Energies Division (NED) leads the development, implementation and monitoring of various alternative energy sources for Singapore, including solar, hydrogen in its various forms, bioenergy, geothermal energy, as well as other promising low-carbon technologies. NED also oversees issues relating to energy research, development and demonstration of low-carbon energy technologies, as well as the development of competitive and robust new energy industries in Singapore. As part of NED’s long-term objective of pathfinding new low/zero-carbon energy pathways for Singapore to decarbonise our grid, having a strong understanding of the long-term technoeconomic readiness of each pathway, resource requirements, as well as the latest in emerging/near-commercial clean technology developments to decarbonise the power and industrial sectors, are key tasks for which we are hopeful for our 2025 intern/s to work on. The final project deliverable will contribute toward NED’s efforts towards energy transition masterplanning and inform decisions surfaced to MTI’s Senior Management relating to investments in research, innovation and infrastructure-related policy and planning.

What you will be working on

The internship will involve conducting independent research, internal and external informational interviews with government agencies, ministries, think tanks, academia and private sector investors. Beyond this project, there will also be opportunities for the intern to be exposed to other dynamic and challenging workstreams in the fast-evolving energy space.

What we are looking for

• Ability to conduct independent research and informational interviews in a greenfield area and present findings succinctly and analytically in writing • Comfortable sourcing for and participating in engagements with external interlocutors (e.g., think tanks, international organisations etc.) • Prior experience in the energy sector would be a plus, but not a requirement • Past finance, economics and/or quantitative-related coursework would be a plus. • Preference for final year undergraduates and Masters’ candidates
