What the role is

ICA Psychological Services (IPS) is a psychology unit within the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA). It serves to provide psychological services for personnel in ICA. It has two main branches that focus on different areas of psychological services: Counselling and Operational Resilience Branch • Counselling Psychology • Paracounselling Psychology • Operational Performance • Border Security & Forensic Psychology Personnel and Organisational Psychology Branch • Leadership • Organisational Performance • Personnel Selection & Assessment The full-time internship programme will last 12 weeks (13 May 2025 to 1 August 2025, subject to changes). It enables you to acquire: • Practical experience and understanding of the work of psychologists and researchers in an applied setting, specifically in a government organisation; • Skills and training in various psychological work; • A sound commitment to the ethical standards of professional practice; and • A strong sense of professional identity and responsibility in the context of the scientist-practitioner model.

What you will be working on

During this 12-week full-time internship programme, you are required to: • Undertake an independent research project on a specific topic (qualitative or quantitative) under the supervision of an ICA psychologist; • Present the findings of your independent research project in the form of a written report and/or an oral presentation; and • Assist in administrative and logistical duties. Additionally, you may be exposed to other areas of work and training. Interns will be paid a monthly allowance of up to S$1,200 (pro-rated if necessary), in accordance with the Public Service Division guidelines. Interns will be evaluated by their respective supervisors. Those who successfully complete the internship programme will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

What we are looking for

Applicants are required to fulfill the following requirements to be considered for the internship programme: • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in psychology at an established institution and have completed at least two academic years of study as of the start of the internship [Note: applicants must still be a matriculated student during the time of internship period to be eligible for this internship]; • Have a basic understanding of statistical analyses and data collection techniques; and • Have a keen interest in research. Applicants should also possess the following attributes: • Able to work independently as well as in a team • Have a passion for psychology and related work • Able to critically analyse and assess issues • Able to communicate and present information effectively (both orally and in written reports) • Open to acquiring new ideas and information.
