[MOF Summer Internship] Intern, Social Programmes
Ministry of Finance
Internship
Closing on 21 Feb 2025
What the role is
What you will be working on
Project #1: Optimising funding models for social services
• This project aims to identify innovative funding approaches for Singapore's Social Service Agencies.
• The intern will
a) Analyse areas for improvement in how Singapore’s Social Service Agencies are funded; and
b) Propose funding models which compensate SSAs fairly while incentivising the provision of cost-effective and quality care.
• This may require studying funding approaches from other jurisdictions (e.g., pay-for-performance, outcomes-based funding), as well as engagements with local stakeholders such as MSF.
• The intern may also be required to work on other projects related to financing in the social sector, including studying the impact of private equity on healthcare costs.
• A successful candidate should ideally have a background in economics, finance, or public policy.
Project #2: Improving job matching services for mature workers and individuals returning to the labour force
• Navigating the job search process can be challenging for most individuals, and especially so for mature workers, as well as individuals returning to work after spending some time outside the labour force (e.g. caregivers). Intermediaries, such as job matching services and job portals, help to ease the process. Besides aggregating job offers, job matching services often complement the job search process with career coaching and also direct jobseekers to relevant training programmes. For mature workers and individuals returning to the labour force, additional support may be required.
• For this internship, we would like to delve deeper into how have other countries dealt with the problem of job matching for mature workers and individuals returning to the labour force. The intern is expected to prepare a report reviewing the job matching services in other countries, how successful they have been, and what learning points they have for Singapore.
• A successful candidate should ideally have a background in economics, public policy or social sciences.
What we are looking for
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Integrity and strong sense of national interest.
