What the role is

MOM licenses migrant worker dormitories and works with various agencies to ensure there is sufficient supply of beds and dormitories are well-managed. We also license employment agencies to ensure that they comply with our regulations. In the course of our operations, we collect vast amounts of data. However many of these datasets are designed for operational uses and may not be structured to support analysis. The licensing team is embarking on data transformation project to redesign the data structure of licensing data and bring together disparate operational datasets generate new insights that can support policy and operational needs. The project will be conducted using design thinking principles, involving stakeholder interviews and prototyping to develop data products that address current business needs in two key areas: • Managing shortage of bed spaces in migrant worker dormitories while supporting raising of standards through the Dormitory Transition Scheme. • Better understand performance indicators in the employment agency landscape, so as to inform policy design that can help to raise professionalism in the industry.

What you will be working on

The intern would be part of the project team to: • Redesign data structure of the housing licensing Excel databases. • Develop/design Tableau dashboards to support regular monitoring and timely escalation of anomalies. • Analyse business data to derive insights for solving business issues, for example: o Identify archetypes of employment agencies who tend to be less responsive to MOM’s request for info and recommend nudges to improve behaviour of the target groups. o Use visualisation to analyse the varying processing times/norms taken to process the FEDA licences applications of different dormitory types and pinpoint time-consuming steps unique to the dormitory types.

What we are looking for

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications especially excel, and data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI. • Experience in data handling/visualization would be beneficial • Excellent numerical reasoning and analytical skills and an eye for details. • Quick to adapt, able to multitask and work independently and as a team in fast paced environment. • Proactive and positive attitude. • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Able to connect with people and understand their needs.
