Assistant Director, Strategic Communications

What the role is

As a member of the growing Strategic Communications division, you will lead a team of 3-4 officers to support the positive promotion and management of the Council’s agenda and reputation as champion of the arts. You will report to the Director of Strategic Communications.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic counsel to designated accounts, in the areas of PR, issues management, protocol matters

  • Co-develop, review and implement communications initiatives and campaigns in support of Council’s focus areas and strategic thrusts

  • Define outcomes and objectives from communications workplans

  • Plan, manage and ensure budget sufficiency and marksmanship to achieve desired outcomes

  • Supervise, lead and mentor members of the communications team while maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Work with parent ministry and internal stakeholders on messaging to ensure strong consistent media messaging on Council’s work

  • Maintain strong relationship with editors, journalists, writers, relevant influencers and PR agencies

  • Identify new communications trends and growth opportunities to support and advance the Council’s programmes and initiatives.

What we are looking for:

  • At least five years of experience in media management and managing stakeholders, including project management and organisational skills

  • Competencies in communications planning, media management and relations, narrative and message framing, and data analysis

  • Competencies in leading and growing a young team

  • Proactiveness and resilience in managing communication campaigns and issues

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
