What the role is
Republic Polytechnic’s School of Engineering is hiring a full-time Research Staff for a 24-month contract to support the MOE-TIF-funded project: “Biodegradable Unpowered Temperature-Controlled Cold Box for Cold Chain/Logistics”.
What you will be working on
Project Overview:
This project focuses on developing a biodegradable, reusable, and high-performance cold box for sustainable cold chain logistics. Using eco-friendly materials (e.g., cornstarch-based insulation) and blended Phase Change Materials (PCMs), we aim to enhance temperature stability, durability, and environmental sustainability.
Key innovations include:
✔ Reinforced structures for durability
✔ Vacuum insulation for efficiency
✔ Real-time temperature monitoring
✔ Renewable energy integration for reduced carbon footprint
By collaborating with industry partners and conducting life cycle assessments, this research will deliver a scalable, sustainable solution for temperature-sensitive shipping.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct research on biodegradable materials, insulation, and PCMs for cold chain applications.
Perform shelf life assay of vegetable/fruit/fish/meat/sea food
Perform nutritional analysis of food.
Perform heat transfer analysis and cooling performance assessment using scientific methods and data tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
Collaborate with industry partners and regulatory bodies for validation and standardisation.
Mentor students and interns in research, product development, and testing.
Assist in Intellectual Property (IP) development and commercialisation of project innovations.
Apply new software relevant to the project.
Manage procurement of research consumables and equipment.
Prepare research reports, publications, and grant proposals.
What we are looking for
Qualifications in applied physics, material science, chemistry, food sciences, heat transfer, environmental engineering, materials engineering, thermal engineering, renewable energy, sustainability, or related fields.
Strong interest in sustainable materials and cooling energy management for cold boxes and cold chain applications.
Proficiency in nutritional and microbiological analysis
Proficiency in data analysis and scientific tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
Familiarity with thermal testing, material characterization, or PCM research is a plus.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a team player.
Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply as well.
