What the role is

Hawker centres are our “community dining rooms”, where hawker-entrepreneurs serve affordable good food, bringing people together in our everyday neighbourhoods. By joining the Hawkers’ Policy team, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, policies and plans to ensure that our hawker centres remain relevant and sustainable, to meet the needs of Singaporeans, today and tomorrow.

What you will be working on

You will be part of the team that is collectively responsible for the following:

  • Review tenancy agreements and hawker policies and develop strategies to ensure their continued relevance and alignment with key policy objectives of ensuring affordable and quality food options in hawker centres, enhancing vibrancy of hawker centres and community bonding, and creating a sustainable hawker trade

  • Coordinate with Ministry and other NEA departments on government communications related to hawker centres and markets management

  • Develop long-term strategies to ensure adequate and sustainable resourcing and management of hawker centres

  • Drive and coordinate surveys and sense-making efforts within Hawker Centres Group (HCG) to ensure alignment and relevance with changing policy and operational needs

  • Support management in monitoring and reporting of key performance indicators and strategic risks related to hawker centres and markets management

  • Collaborate with other agencies to support the delivery of WOG policies and programmes through hawker centres

What we are looking for

  • Passion for preserving our hawker culture and hawker trade

  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills to formulate policy in an environment of competing priorities, and communicate effectively to the stakeholders

  • Meticulous and proficient in handling data for analysis and presentation purpose 

  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage and build partnerships with stakeholders

  • Demonstrate initiative, a passion to learn, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Be prepared to work on occasional weekends or after office hours base to work contingencies
