The Centre for Climate Research Singapore (CCRS) is a division of the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS). At CCRS, our mission is to advance scientific understanding of tropical climate variability and change and its associated weather systems affecting Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region, so that the knowledge and expertise can benefit decision makers and the community. Our vision is to be a world leading centre in tropical climate and weather research focusing on the Southeast Asia region.
The Department of Research Masterplanning (DRM) was formed in April 2023 to boost CCRS’s research programme management activities, which includes building new capabilities to support the goals of the National Climate Science Research Masterplan (CSRMP) and strengthening local research climate and weather science capabilities in Singapore through NRF-funded research grants managed by the Climate and Weather Research Programme Office (CWRPO).
Ongoing research programmes include the $6.5M National Sea Level Programme (NSLP) and $23.5M Climate Impact Science Research (CISR) Programme. Key priority areas include climate change impacts on sea level rise, water resources and flood management, biodiversity and food security; human health and energy; and translation of climate science to policy. A new $25mil RIE2025 Weather Science Research Programme (WSRP) was launched to enhance Singapore's ability to understand and predict our tropical urban weather, including extreme weather arising from climate change.
