LECTURER, INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION - SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
Ngee Ann Polytechnic
Closing on 30 Mar 2025
What the role is
What you will be working on
As a Lecturer in Industrial Automation, you will be responsible for delivering education in automation technologies, industrial control systems, and production digitalisation. Your expertise in programming industrial controllers (PLCs), designing Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and integrating smart sensors, vision systems, actuators, and motor drives will help students develop real-world automation solutions.
Additionally, you will teach industrial networking and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technologies, including communication protocols such as OPC UA, enabling students to monitor machine performance and calculate Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Experience in implementing protection functions within Operational Technology (OT) environments will be highly valuable.
Beyond teaching, you will develop and assess assignments, mentor students, supervise final-year projects, and engage in industry collaborations to ensure students gain practical, industry-relevant experience.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop and conduct lectures, tutorials, and hands-on workshops in industrial automation and control systems.
Teach PLC programming (IEC 61131-3), HMI development, and integration of smart sensors, cameras, actuators, and motor drives for automated systems.
Instruct students on connecting automation systems to Industrial IoT (IIoT) gateways using protocols like OPC UA for data collection and OEE calculations.
Provide practical training in industrial control networks, cybersecurity for OT environments, and digitalisation technologies.
Supervise and mentor students in final-year projects
Prepare and assess assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests, and maintain student records.
Support student learning through consultations and mentorship.
Train and prepare students for local and international competitions.
Involve in technology projects as a final year project supervisor, or as a member or principal investigator.
Identify and establish new collaboration opportunities with industry partners.
Manage course administration, including curriculum development and academic planning.

At least 3 years of industry experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, and production digitalisation.
Experience in PLC IEC 61131-3, C/C++, or Python.
Knowledge of industrial networking, IIoT, RFID, PLC web servers, cybersecurity, and vision systems is highly desirable.
Passion for teaching, mentoring, and student development.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop engaging curriculum content and conduct hands-on training.
Commitment to staying updated with industry advancements and integrating new technologies into teaching.
