What the role is

As a Research Officer in the Heritage and Social Responsibility Branch (HSB) in the Public Affairs Department of the Singapore Police Force (SPF), you help to enhance the SPF brand and narrative by driving projects and initiatives related to Police heritage and history. These projects are targeted at deepening the public’s trust and understanding of SPF rich history. The officer’s portfolio includes playing a key role in the revamp of the Police Heritage Centre and planning for the upcoming Police Museum. The jobholder is expected to carry out research work, liaising with vendors, tracking project milestones, reporting progress and seeking clearance from SPF senior management for the exhibition content and tasks related to the revamp. The officer will conduct oral history interviews to enhance the archival collection of the PHC. On a weekly basis, the officer is to write nuggets of information related to Police history to be published on FaceBook and TikTok aimed at generating reader engagement in SPF history. The jobholder will take on secretariat duties in meetings reporting heritage-related matters to senior management. The jobholder will also handle requests from external agencies and members of public on matters which require collation and research work from SPF archives. As and when required, the officer is to conduct PHC tours to visitors from all walks of life including senior-ranking officers, tourists, recruits, families and children.

What you will be working on

You will work on the revamp of the Police Heritage Centre and plan for the establishment of the Police Museum. You will drive the development of the PHC and manage heritage research projects. As Research Officer, you will both fact-check and provide inputs to on Police-related history to researchers and SPF officers. You will be expected to contribute articles to SPF’s in-house magazine as part of creating more awareness of Police history.

What we are looking for

• Background preferably from History, Museum Studies, and Mass Communications. • Proficient in English and at least one other vernacular language. • Preferably 3 years of relevant work experience in graphic design or branding. Prior experience in doing research, conservation work, writing for journals or magazines is a plus. • Confident, articulate and posses critical thinking skills. • Driven, resourceful, proactive and resilient individual who is committed to professional excellence. • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving attributes and a service mindset; able to work effectively with various stakeholders in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. • Able to work under pressure and deliver under tight timelines; meticulous and detail-oriented. • Able to work both independently and also an excellent team player. • Able to work beyond regular hours when there are work exigencies.
