What the role is

You will work in Environmental Health Institute, and be a member in the Environmental Microbiology & Molecular Epidemiology Division.

What you will be working on

The Environmental Health Institute (EHI) seeks motivated and curious analysts to join our wastewater-based surveillance programme. Wastewater-based monitoring has proven to be a useful surveillance tool for informing public health initiatives and policy.  We offer an interdisciplinary setting where your contributions will directly impact evidence-driven outcomes.

In this role within the Wastewater-Based Epidemiology team, you will handle key laboratory functions including laboratory testing, data analytics, ensuring compliance to biosafety and quality protocols, and managing procurement activities. Strong analytical skills are essential for interpreting and deriving meaningful insights from wastewater surveillance data.

What we are looking for

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Microbiology or related disciplines, with preferably 3 years’ experience in laboratory testing or research.
  • Experience working in Biosafety Level 2/3 and is willing to work in a high-containment facility.
  • Experience in molecular diagnostics techniques such as Real-Time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR (qRT-PCR), and associated data analysis and reporting, quality control, etc.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and appreciate the requirements of strict timelines and urgent work demands.
  • Excellent analytical mind and systematic in planning.
  • Able to multitask and work in a team.
  • Willing to work after office hours and weekends if required.
  • Task orientated and meticulous, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with data analysis using open-source programming languages, particularly Python or R language will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in drafting scientific manuscripts for publication will be an added advantage.
