What the role is
Reporting to the Marine Safety and Port Operations Division (MSPO), you will be part of a dynamic team that looks at the formulating policies and management processes to develop and ensure that Dangerous Goods (DG) are safely transported through sea transportation in accordance to the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) requirements. In addition, you will also assist in other port safety related matters.
What you will be working on
As part of the team, you are will be tasked with:
Ensure Dangerous Goods (DG) compliance and conduct inspections on-board vessels at various cargo terminals;
Conduct of remote surveillance/inspection using UAV/technologies for enhanced capabilities and efficiency;
Conduct gas-free inspection to ensure vessels are free from flammable vapours before entry into shipyards;
Provide technical advice during emergency/incident involving chemical/oil in port; Use of technology to monitor and assess the situation during chemical/oil spills in port;
Participate in ad-hoc workstreams on the development and improving existing processes/systems to support MPA’s mission;
Participate and contribute in inter-agency and IMO committees/working groups on development of policies and IMO instruments
What we are looking for
Candidates with good knowledge in Science (Chemistry) and marine operations and ship structure as well as familiarity with Workplace Safety and Health practices in maritime industries, or well versed with emergency response on chemical/oil spills, will have an added advantage.
