What the role is

The ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic development.
Applications are invited for:

Research Officer, Malaysia Studies Programme (1-Year Contract)

The officer is responsible for assisting in programme operations and management support for research projects and activities under the Malaysia Studies Programme. He or she should work independently with limited supervision, and will have the opportunity to undertake a personal research project.

What you will be working on

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the MSP Coordinator and Co-Coordinator with the programme's projects, as well as support the organisation of seminars, conferences, and workshops;

  • Assist the Coordinator in preparing reports and publications for ISEAS senior management and external stakeholders;

  • Perform ISEAS institutional duties (eg note-taking, logistics support, preparing event-related material);

  • Undertake a research project on a mutually-agreed topic under the supervision of the Coordinator and Co-Coordinator.

What we are looking for

Requirements:

  • A university degree in social sciences or related fields, preferably in Political Science, Human Geography, Southeast Asian Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, History, or Economics. An advanced degree such as an MA or MPhil would be an advantage.

  • Good communication and writing skills in English.

  • Working knowledge of a Malaysian language, especially Malay, would be an advantage.

  • Experience in copy-editing and other forms of editorial work would be highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in web and social media editing and content management would be an advantage.

Remuneration and benefits will depend on the candidate’s qualification and experience.
